The Professionals Circle

Boulder Area Professionals Therapy Group

The Professional’s Circle is an in-person professionals therapy group in the Boulder area facilitated by D.J. Bishop, Licensed Professional Counselor. This group is for anyone working in the mental health field - from therapists, to behavioral techs, to those in administration and admissions.

The group provides a space for mental health professionals to come together to do their own personal healing work. Unlike a training group, the Professional’s Circle is a setting where empathy is held for both your role as a professional, and your personal life simultaneously.

A new group starts every 2-3 months and meets for 8 sessions over the span of 8 weeks. Each session runs roughly 2 hours.

Why Join the Professionals Therapy Group in Boulder?

When we continue to work on ourselves, we invest in our own well-being. This helps us feel more grounded and expands our window of tolerance to better hold space for our clients.

Ongoing therapy work has been vital to my self-care, prevented me from burning out, and empowered me to stay connected to my passion for therapy. Sharing space held by other therapists and professionals has provided mirroring for my experience and a deep understanding and empathy for what it is to work in the mental health field.

In this group, you can shed the expectation of being an “expert” and simply show up as the complex human being you are. You will be witnessed both in your humanity and as a professional who witnesses others.

This group:

  • Provides mental health professionals a space to do their own therapy work, free from the fear of bumping into a client or a potential client

  • Helps professionals process and heal from painful life experiences

  • Increases self-care

  • Reduces burnout

  • Builds community

What to expect from the professionals therapy group in Boulder

In this group, each participant will embark on their own journey of healing from past trauma through experiential therapy.

We’ll begin by building rapport through sociometry, a method for building group cohesion that enables us to identify resources and strengths, connecting us to ourselves and others.

Once we’ve built a safe therapeutic container, we’ll incorporate the power of story with action methods, such as empty chair work, art therapy, and role play. This will allow us to create a picture and a new understanding of our experiences and their impact on us as individuals and professionals.

Once we have painted this new picture, we’ll focus on making meaning of our experiences, rediscovering our wholeness, and integrating our insights into a deeper sense of self. It’s this phase of integration that allows our nervous systems to transform hardship into connection that we can leverage to help others.

Who is a good fit for the professionals circle?

Any professional who works in the mental health field is a good fit for the professionals’ therapy group at my Boulder practice, including therapists, coaches, behavior techs, administrators, and business development and admissions representatives will benefit from joining the group. If you want to invest in your inner work in the community with other professionals and expand your creativity, spontaneity, and understanding of self and others through experiential therapy, reach out to learn more.

 Requirements to join

To create safety within the group the following must be met by each participant:

  • Regular individual therapy with myself or another therapist

  • Attendance at each session - consistency and presence creates a safe space - one person’s work is everyone’s work

  • If you suffer from substance use disorder, you must have at least 6 months of sobriety with an active 12-step program - a sponsor, meetings, and step work.

How to Join

We’ll start with a free 20 minute phone consult to get to know each other and answer questions about the group.

Next, I’ll send you an intake assessment to fill out prior to a one hour one-on-one in-person therapy session with me. During the session, we’ll assess mutual fit, as it’s critical to identify expectations, get to know each other, determine your goals for the group experience, and make sure I’m the right fit for you as a therapist.

Group dynamics make or break the success of the group experience and each candidate will be screened to determine fit. The one-hour session does not guarantee entrance into the group.
